 THE LAKE TOBA


A long time ago, there lived a young orphan farmer in the northern part of the island of Sumatra. The area is very dry. Syahdan, the young man lived from farming and fishing. One day he was fishing a fish so beautiful. The color is golden yellow. So holding, the fish turned into a lovely princess. The daughter of a woman who was condemned for violating a ban. He will turn into a kind of creature that first touch. Therefore, human touches it, it turns into a princess.


Fascinated by her beauty, the young farmer’s daughter asked her to be his wife. The proposal is accepted on condition that the young man would not tell its origin from the farmer ikan. Pemuda the terms agreed. After a year, the couple blessed with a boy. He has a bad habit that is never satisfied. He ate all the food.


One day the boy was eating all the food from their parents. The young man was very upset saying: “basic offspring of fish!” That statement by itself isterinya.Dengan thus unlock the secrets of their promise has been violated.


His wife and son disappeared mysteriously. The land of their former footing springs. The water that flows from the spring growing bigger and bigger. And being a vast lake. The lake is now called Lake Toba.


Sangkuriang

In ancient times, there is a princess in West Java named Dayang Sumbi. She had a son named Sangkuriang.

Sangkuriang was a boy who liked to hunt and when hunting, he was always accompanied by his dog named Tumang. Despite a Dog, Tumang actually an incarnation of the god and the father of Sangkuriang.


One day, he got mad at Tumang for not pursuing the animals. Because of so angry, he then expelled Tumang so the dog went into the woods.


He then returned to the palace and told the incident to her mother. Dayang Sumbi was so angry and hit his head. Sangkuriang then disappointed and he decided to wander.


After hitting Sangkuriang, Dayang Sumbi felt so sorry and she always prayed and meditated to get forgiveness from God. One day, God gave a gift because she was so diligent in praying. The prize is a timeless beauty that would make Sumbi Dayang becoming young forever.


After wandering for a dozen years, Sangkuriang returned home. When he reached the kingdom, all had changed. He did not know what was happening. One day, he met a girl who was so beautiful. The girl was actually a Dayang Sumbi, his own mother.

Sangkuriang fell in love with the girl and then proposed her. Because of the handsomeness that was owned by Sangkuriang, then Dayang Sumbi also fell in love. One day, Sangkuriang want to hunt and he asked Dayang Sumbi to fix the headband. However, Dayang Sumbi surprised that her future husband had a head injury. Dayang Sumbi then realized that was the same injury as her son who wandered away. She then noticed Sangkuriang face, and she was more surprised to realize that her husband was Sangkuriang, her own son.

After those happenings, she immediately looked for ways to thwart the plan of making a proposal. She then proposed two requirements to Sangkuriang. First, Sangkuriang should stem the Citarum River. Secondly, she asked Sangkuriang to make a big canoe to cross the river. Both of those conditions should be finished before sunrise.

At night, Sangkuriang asked for help to spirit creatures to complete all the work. Dayang Sumbi secretly peeked at the job. Once the work was almost complete, Dayang Sumbi ordered his forces to hold a very long red carpet to the east of the city.


The carpet made ​​the light became red and Sangkuriang thought that the sun had risen. He stopped his work and was very upset because all could not meet the requirements posed by Dayang Sumbi. Using his strength, Sangkuriang broke the dam and the city became flooding. His big canoe then crashed upside down and changed into a mountain named, Tangkuban Perahu.

Batara Guru

Quite a long time ago, Batara Guru charged every one of the divine beings and goddesses to contribute their energy with a specific end goal to manufacture another royal residence. Anyone who defied this instruction were viewed as languid and would lose their arms and legs.

Listening  to the Batara Guru’s decree, Naga god was exceptionally restless on the grounds that he didn’t have arms or legs. He may not be capable carry out the employment. So he asked exhortation from Batara Narada who was the more youthful sibling of Batara Guru. Tragically Narada was likewise befuddled. The Naga god turned out to be extremely disturbed.

While the Naga god was weeping for his misfortune, three teardrops fell on the ground. Not long after that, those teardrops got to be three lovely sparkling eggs which looked like gems. At that point Batara Narada exhorted him to offer those sparkling eggs to Batara Guru.

With the three eggs in his mouth, the Naga god went to the Batara Guru’s royal residence. In transit, a falcon made an inquiry. Clearly Naga god couldn’t answer the inquiry on the grounds that he was holding the eggs in his mouth. Seeing that, the feathered creature felt that Naga god was self-important and the fowl assaulted him.

Being assaulted, one egg tumbled to earth. At that point Naga god was stowing away in the brambles yet the flying creature was sitting tight for him. The feathered creature assaulted for the second time and one egg fell once more. So Naga god just had one egg in his mouth. He continued moving to Batara Guru’s castle.

At long last Naga god touched base at the royal residence. He offered the egg to the Batara Guru. What’s more, marvelously the egg incubated turned into an exceptionally lovely child young lady. Naga god gave the infant young lady to the Batara Guru. The child grew up into a wonderful young lady and later known for Dewi Sri.

Dewi Mutiara called a black wizard tor curse Kadita. She wanted kadita’s beautiful body full of ulcer. Then, Kadita’s body was full of ulcer. It smelled bad. The beautiful princess cried.

The King was very sad. No one could cure the illness of his daughter. The King did not want her daughter to be a rumour, so he sent his daughter away.

The poor princess did not know where to go. However, she had a noble heart. She did not have any bad feelings about her stepmother. She walked for almost seven days and seven nights. Then, she came to the south Ocean. The ocean was so clean and clear. She jumped into the water and swam.

Suddenly, there was a miracle. The ocean water cured her illness. She became more beautiful than before. She also had a power to command the whole South Ocean. She became a fairy called Nyi Roro Kidul or the Queen of South Ocean.

The Lion and A Clever Fox

Long ago, there lived a lion in a dense forest. One morning his wife told him that his breath was bad and unpleasant. The lion became embarrassed and angry upon hearing it. He wanted to check this fact with others. So he called three others outside his cave.

First came the sheep. The Lion opening his mouth wide said, “Sheep, tell me if my mouth smells bad?” The sheep thought that the lion wanted an honest answer, so the sheep said, “Yes, Friend. There seems to be something wrong with your breath”. This plain speak did not go well with the lion. He pounced on the sheep, killing it.

Then the lion called the wolf and said, “What do you think? Do I have a bad breath?” The wolf saw what happened to the sheep. He wanted to be very cautious in answering a question. So, the wolf said, “Who says that Your breath is unpleasant. It’s as sweet as the smell of roses”. When the lion heard the reply, he roared in an anger and immediately attacked the wolf and killed it. “The flatterer!” growled the lion.

Finally, came the turn of the fox. The lion asked him the same question. The fox was well aware of the fate of the sheep and the wolf. So he coughed and cleared his throat again and again and then said, “Oh Dear Friend, for the last few days, I have been having a very bad cold. Due to this, I can’t smell anything, pleasant or unpleasant”.


The lion spared the fox’s life.
